Just a few months ago Max Justus released his full length Mercy. On his new ep entitled Signs & Wonders Max keeps moving farther and farther away from the original beat making and to continue darker sound. The light peaking through at the end of the tunnel though is the addition of Max’s vocals on all the songs. Tracks like Flesh and Doa are the stand out’s and engage the listener with thoughtful lyrics.
Over the last few years Max Justus has been cooking up his own brand of dance and electronic grooves for Kansas City’s The Record Machine label. His latest album Mercy is his third for them. While Mercy still finds Max expanding his signature grooves and brooding electronic tones it focuses more on vocal approach and songwriting. Max’s last few albums have been primarily instrumental affairs while Mercy finds him lending his voice to bolster his compositions. Mercy still retains a few pop gems and dance hall grooves but the overall tone of the album is more dark and foreboding then his previous works.
Max and I have just returned from the whirlwind time in NYC. Max played 3 fabulous shows and we had blast. Check out the Culture of Me for some photos and nice little write up. We want to thank everyone who came out to the shows and big hugs and kisses to Mushpot for helping set up everything. I already miss being in the city.
Our good friends Queens Club just came out with their debut Nightmarer EP on Tooth and Nail Records. They asked Max Justus to remix the title track for the release. Max brings his signature dark vibe to the track giving it a pulsing electronic rhythm through out. Max finds a way to bend and warp the original track into something all together new.
Also tomorrow marks the start of Max’s whirlwind NYC tour. He will be doing 3 shows over the course of the next six days. If you happen to be in NYC we would love to see you out.

Next week is our second A Night of Record Machine-ness in Kansas City for the summer. The last one was a great sucess. We had about 200 or more people packed into Bryce’s house for so much fun they almost fined us. This time we are having it at a proper venue: The Czar Bar. It will be to celebrate Perhapsy coming to Kansas City in support of their new record. They will be joined by Capybara and Sam Billen. It is going to be a great night and hopefully we can pack out 200+ people in Czar Bar so please come out. It also got a nice write up in the Pitch.
