Our New Blog and Sam Billen Removers Part 1

So as many of you might have seen we added a tumblr blog. We did it for a few reasons 1) I love the service and I think it is great way for posting more content and more regular content 2) It will hopefully give you some more insight into who TRM is and give you in sight to what we like and why. 3) This year we are creating so much new media we wanted a place to put it that didn’t clearly clutter up the news that you may want to get on a regular basis. So if your someone that is looking for daily content we will have more updates for you over on the blog. For someone that is looking for just the good stuff new release news, tour news, $2.00 albums and other offers keep yours right where they are and we will still have plenty of news on a weekly basis.

As you might have seen on the blog yesterday we released Part 1 to Sam Billen’s Removers album. It is the first 4 songs collected all into one handy place. So if you haven’t already gotten all of them we have a few different ways you can get your hands on these songs:

We are excited to launch our first holiday compilation entitled The More The Merrier Christmas. The compilation was curated by Sam Billen as he hand picked all the artists that appear. It features classic and new songs from Sam Billen, Nathan Philips(The Winston Jazz Routine), Andrew Connor(Ghosty), Joshu, Taylor Hollenbeck(Old Canes) and Andy Smith with Brian Lee and His Orchestra(Paper Route). Sam Billen – Headphones and Cellphones

Sam Billen’s new record Headphones and Cellphones is now available on Itunes, Amazon, Emusic and several other digital download stores. Physical copies will be coming to The Record Machine store soon. He is also in the process of creating a covers album that we will be releasing for free. It will be called Removers. Today we are releasing the first cover which is of Deastro – Spritle.

Lawrence.com podcast with Sam Billen

Sam Billen did a podcast for his hometown Lawrence.com about the release of his new record Headphones and Cellphones that comes out next week. He also seems to mention his love of Surge a few times. They played the entire new record but more like a dvd commentary with an interview over the top of it.

Song Of The Month: Capybara – The Wimp(Sam Billen Remix)

This month song celebrates some convergence of Record Machine artists. Our artist Sam Billen put together a sweet little remix for Capybara’s The Wimp. We thought it would be a great way to celebrate two things.

1) Sam’s new album Headphones and Cellphones comes out on the 27th
2) We were in need of a kick off to our Capybara – The Wimp Remix Competition.

What?! What’s that you say Remix Competition?

We decided to put together a sweet competition for all of you to enjoy. If your interested head over to Remix Competition page. The first prize winner gets a giant gummy bear(pictured above and yes he is making his own remix in that picture)and five Record Machine Releases. New Sampler and A Night Of Record Machine-ness

We have launched a brand new sampler where you can stream and download tracks from several of our upcoming records. Check it out over at www.therecordmachine.net/sampler.

Next week is our second A Night of Record Machine-ness in Kansas City for the summer. The last one was a great sucess. We had about 200 or more people packed into Bryce’s house for so much fun they almost fined us. This time we are having it at a proper venue: The Czar Bar. It will be to celebrate Perhapsy coming to Kansas City in support of their new record. They will be joined by Capybara and Sam Billen. It is going to be a great night and hopefully we can pack out 200+ people in Czar Bar so please come out. It also got a nice write up in the Pitch.

On Tuesday I was invited down to Lawrence to share a lot of new Record Machine releases with Richard Gintowt’s Lawrence.com Podcast. I played several new songs from upcoming releases. You can hear songs from State Bird, Max Justus, Perhapsy, Capybara, The Parade Schedule, Sam & Dan Billen, Caleb Winn and new solo song from Sam Billen.

First thing first we have a few exciting upcoming Kansas City shows. One is a not so secret basement show on July 18th with State Bird, Max Justus, Parade Schedule, and Capybara. We aren’t going to release the address for the show for another week. So keep your eyes on twitter for more infomation. We also have another showcase we are throwing on August 5th at Czar Bar with Capybara, Perhapsy, and Sam Billen. So that is 6 of our bands coming to KC in just a short time.

Capybara

We have signed Kansas City band Capybara and are going to re-release a new mastered version of their debut record Try Brother next month. They are going to be on tour for over 3 months from August to December. The tour will cover all parts of the country so you will have plenty of time and options to hear them.

Sam & Dan Billen

Sam & Dan Billen have worked on creating a documentary soundtrack for Porubsky’s Deli in Topeka. The record will also come out next month as a digital only release. Sam has also recorded a digital ep for us that we will be releasing next month as the song of the month.

The Parade Schedule

We are shooting for a September release of The Parade Schedule – Seeds To Be Planted, Trees To Be Cut.They are going to be going playing several shows in July and August. Check the shows page for information. We are going to be launching their first song of the month next week with their song Old.

2008 Year End Sampler and Wrap Up

2008 has been one of the best years for Record Machine since we started this record label 5 years ago. We had really great releases from State Bird, Interstates, and Max Justus. Our plans for 2009 are even more ambitious. We already have 6 really great records lined up for next year. As a little early Christmas present we put together this year end wrap up and preview for next year. Some of these songs have been floating around for awhile but we decided to put them all together for you. You can also download the songs from Max Justus and Sam Billen.

2009 Record Machine Releases:

Perhapsy- Perhapsy (The solo debut of Derek Barber from The Winston Jazz Routine and Every Gentle Air)
Sam Billen – Untitled. (The second solo record and first on Record Machine from former Billions front man Sam Billen)
Caleb Winn- Untitled (The solo debut from Caleb Winn from The Winston Jazz Routine, State Bird, and Every Gentle Air)
Max Justus- No Mercy (Max Justus already has a follow up to last years Five Leaping Leopards. From the songs we have heard so far the title is pretty fitting)
State Bird – Untitled (State Bird is also ready to follow up their last record Mostly Ghostly)
Of Asaph – We Draw Crowds(Anthology) (An anthology of songs from the pre-Interstates band from Alex O’nan and Kyle Noltemeyer)
