Founded by brothers Enrique and Diego Chi, Making Movies fuses Afro-Cuban rhythms with indie sensibilities and bi-lingual songs. The Panamanian brothers teamed up with drummer Brendan Culp and percussionist Juan-Carlos Chaurand and created their independent debut album, In Deo Speramus. Their do-it-yourself ethos and striking live show has taken the band across the United States opening for respected artists including Ozomatli, Los Lobos, Neon Indian, Cursive, Mariachi el Bronx and Delta Spirit.
Making Movies will continue to have a busy 2012. They recently released a 7? vinyl with hometown label, The Record Machine in conjunction with a digital EP. In April they performed at the label’s Middle of the Map Fest in Kansas City supporting 2012?s massive sensation and festival headliner: Fun. This followed a two-week stretch in Portland, Oregon where Making Movies recorded their sophomore album under the guidance of legendary artist and producer Steve Berlin. Berlin, best known as the saxophonist in the Grammy Winning rock group Los Lobos, has worked with renowned artists such as Paul Simon, John Lee Hooker, Ozomatli, Gomez, REM, The Replacements, and Deertick. Look for their sophomore album due out in late 2012.
